Kokomo CEO seeks to prepare people, especially youth, to be responsible, enterprising individuals who become entrepreneurs or entrepreneurial thinkers and contribute to economic development and sustainable communities. The Kokomo CEO program is much more than a textbook course. Rather, students are immersed in real life learning experiences with the opportunity to take risks, manage the results, and learn from the outcomes. Each year the participants execute a business as a team. This year, we put on the CEO Summit. A half day leadership conference with four speakers from various industries. Jeff Butler, entrepreneur, TEDx speaker, and author spoke on “Winning the talent War.” Terry Strada, the National Chair of 9/11 Families United and entrepreneur shared her story of the events that day and years after. David Magley, former Indiana Mr. Basketball, and President of the TBL, discusses leadership along with some great sports stories. Derek Laliberte, owner of Disruptur, finishes the day with a message on personal branding, and his take on sales and marketing. The CEO Summit happened on January 25 amid a winter storm in North Central Indiana. The weather had a small impact on the attendance of the event and Kokomo CEO partnered with ISC SportsNetwork to make the video stream available to their customers. Proceeds of the CEO Summit will benefit the program and be used for startup capital for these young adults personal businesses they will launch later this Spring.
